Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the main airport in Mauritius and is located about 48 km south-east of the capital, Port Louis. The airport is named after the „Father of Independence“ of Mauritius, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, and is the central hub for international tourism on the island. The modern terminal building is inspired by the shape of a palm tree and was opened in 2013.

The Black River Gorges National Park in the southwest of the island delights with lush rainforest, roaring waterfalls and a rich diversity of wildlife – including rare bird species such as the Mauritius kestrel.
