Fuerteventura Airport is located just a few kilometres south of the island capital Puerto del Rosario and is particularly popular with beach holidaymakers. The airport opened in 1969 and now handles more than 6 million passengers annually. Despite its relatively modest size, it is an important hub for tourism in the Canary Islands. Due to the consistently strong trade winds, Fuerteventura is ideal for wind sports, which also attracts many guests.

Places of interest

The kilometre-long beaches of Costa Calma and Jandía are among the most beautiful in Europe – fine sand, turquoise blue water, and constant trade winds make them a paradise for sun worshippers, swimmers, and watersports enthusiasts.

A scenic highlight is the Corralejo Natural Park in the north of the island. Its extensive sand dunes are reminiscent of a desert landscape and offer a fascinating interplay of sea, wind, and golden sand – perfect for walks and spectacular photos.

A popular photographic subject is the historic windmill of Tefía, which is considered one of the island's most famous landmarks and serves as a reminder of Fuerteventura's agricultural past.

In the capital, Puerto del Rosario, the modern promenade invites you for a leisurely stroll. All over the town, you'll find colourful street art that makes the place creatively vibrant and surprising.

• The beaches are so long you forget where you parked. You pop into the water for a moment and come back... three dunes later, completely disoriented, but happy. Tenerife.
• Sand that looks like it's just come off a film set. Black, red, golden yellow – volcanic, dramatic, almost too photogenic to be real. Fuerteventura is basically the James Bond location that never got cast.
• Aloe Vera is more than just a plant here – it's a religion. There's aloe for everything: sunburn, mosquito bites, heartache. Anyone who leaves Fuerteventura without a bottle of aloe hasn't truly been here.
