Florence Airport-Peretola is relatively small but very well located – just about 8 km from the city centre. Due to the surrounding hills, the airport boasts one of the shortest runways in Italy, making it particularly well-known among pilots. The airport is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the famous explorer after whom the continent of America was also named.
