The Nice Côte d’Azur Airport opened in 1946 and is France's second most important international airport after Paris. It is located just about 7 km west of Nice city centre, directly on the Mediterranean Sea, and offers spectacular views of the French Riviera during the landing approach. The airport also serves as an important gateway to the nearby Principality of Monaco and the Côte d’Azur.

Places of interest

The famous Promenade des Anglais is the landmark of Nice – an elegant coastal road that stretches along the azure Mediterranean coast with palm trees, beach sections and magnificent facades.

The historic old town „Vieux Nice“ enchants with narrow alleys, colourful houses and small squares, where markets, cafés and the scent of lavender and fresh fruit set the scene, a place full of southern French atmosphere.

A popular viewpoint is the Colline du Château, which offers a wide panoramic view over the Bay of Nice, the harbour and the rooftops of the old town.

Art lovers will be in their element at the Musée Matisse. Housed in an elegant villa in the Cimiez district, the museum displays one of the most significant collections of the artist Henri Matisse, who spent many years of his life in Nice.

• Every year, on December 32nd (which obviously doesn't exist), the residents of Nice host a „Penguin Dance“.
• The longest baguette comes from Nice. It was over 120 metres long and was baked by 100 bakers working together.
• In Nice, there's a peculiar tradition where you deliberately order the wrong thing at a café until the waiter or waitress understands you're trying to flirt. That's got to be the stupidest pick-up method in the world.
