Corfu Airport is named after Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first head of state of Greece. The airport is particularly famous for its spectacular landings: the runway runs right along the water, just a few metres above sea level. Visitors can watch the planes approaching from the famous viewing terrace on the „Kanoni peninsula“, almost close enough to see the wings.

Places of interest

Corfu's Old Town impresses with Venetian architecture, narrow alleys, colourful facades and a lively Mediterranean flair. Small squares, hidden cafes and lovingly restored houses lend it a very special charm.

The historic Palaio Frourio fortress, perched on a peninsula on the eastern outskirts of town, offers a magnificent view of the city and the sea.

A popular excursion destination is the elegant Achilleion, the former palace of Empress Sisi, surrounded by artfully landscaped gardens, ancient statues, and a picturesque view over the coast of Corfu.

Not far from the airport lies the small island of Pontikonisi, also known as „Mouse Island“, with a white monastery amidst lush greenery, one of the island's most photographed sights.

A natural highlight is the dreamlike bay of Paleokastritsa, known for its turquoise blue water, dramatic rock formations, and idyllic bathing spots – perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or boating.
