During take-offs and landings, Winston Churchill Avenue is closed off with barriers, like a level crossing. The airport is spectacularly located right on the border with Spain and below the famous Rock of Gibraltar, which is also the landmark of the British Overseas Territory.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33%\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Places of interest<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The striking Rock of Gibraltar is the landmark of the British Overseas Territory and offers breathtaking views across the Strait of Gibraltar \u2013 and even as far as Africa on a clear day. The Rock is particularly famous for its resident Barbary macaques, the only wild monkeys in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A fascinating natural wonder inside the rock is St. Michael's Cave, an impressive stalactite cave with bizarre formations and atmospheric lighting \u2013 once used as a place of refuge, today concerts are occasionally held here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A testament to Gibraltar's long and varied history is the Moorish Castle, whose origins date back to the 8th century. Also of historical significance are the Great Siege Tunnels, an extensive tunnel system hewn into the rock by British soldiers during the Great Siege in the 18th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Useless knowledge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Gibraltar, airplanes have priority. Huge cruise ships dock as if it were Manhattan, yet you can jog from north to south in 15 minutes.
