At Te Vara Nui Village, traditional dances and the culture of the Cook Islands are brought to life. The Cross-Island Track leads through the Rarotonga jungle up to the \u201eNeedle\u201c rock, offering fantastic views over the island. The capital, Avarua, boasts charming markets, souvenir shops, and traditional colonial-style churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Useless knowledge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rarotonga's runway is so close to the coast that plane spotters can watch the jets fly almost overhead from the beach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The local cocktail is called a \u201aMai Tai\u2018, and after the third one, you'll automatically say \u201emeitai\u201c instead of \u201emaybe\u201c. Warning: This can lead to you suddenly strumming a ukulele without ever having learned how.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are no traffic lights on Rarotonga.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are exactly two bus routes: one runs clockwise, the other anti-clockwise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WLAN on Rarotonga is like a shy animal \u2013 expensive, slow, rare. Being offline isn't a state, but the island's standard.
